Innovation Grant

Have an Idea? Let's Make It Happen.

Some of the best ideas in education begin with a simple thought: “What if we tried this?”

The Comal Education Foundation's Innovation Grant is designed to help Comal ISD employees turn those ideas into meaningful opportunities for students.

Open to all Comal ISD staff and employees, this grant supports innovative projects that inspire learning, solve problems, increase student engagement, introduce new experiences, or create opportunities that may not be possible through traditional funding.

Maybe you have an idea for a hands-on STEM experience. A creative way to bring literacy to life. A new approach to student leadership. A project that connects students with the community. A technology solution. A campus-wide initiative. Or something no one has tried before. If it has the potential to make a difference, we want to hear about it.

Innovation isn't always about having the newest idea. Sometimes it's about seeing an existing challenge differently and creating a better way forward. CEF believes the people closest to students are often the people with the best ideas. That's why we're investing in your creativity, expertise, and vision.

Who can apply?
All eligible Comal ISD staff and employees.

What can you fund?
Innovative projects, resources, experiences, and initiatives that create measurable value for students, educators, or campuses. Don't wait for a great idea to become “someday.”

Apply. Innovate. Inspire. Grow Greatness.

Expertise Grant

Invest in Yourself. Bring More Back to Comal.

Great educators never stop learning. The Expertise Grant provides Comal ISD staff and employees with an opportunity to invest in their own professional growth and then bring that new knowledge, skill, and inspiration back to their students, colleagues, and campus.

Open to all eligible Comal ISD staff and employees, this grant can support professional learning opportunities that help you grow in your role and expand your impact. This may include conferences, specialized training, courses, certifications, workshops, externships, or other professional development experiences.

Maybe there's a conference you've always wanted to attend. A certification that could expand your expertise. A training that would give you a new strategy for reaching students. An externship that would connect you with an industry you teach about. Or an opportunity that could help you become an even stronger leader.

We believe professional growth isn't just an investment in one employee. It is an investment in every student and colleague that employee touches. Tell us what you want to learn, why it matters, and how you plan to bring that knowledge back to Comal ISD.

Who can apply?
All eligible Comal ISD staff and employees.

What can you fund?
Professional learning experiences that strengthen your knowledge, skills, leadership, or impact.

Your next learning opportunity could become someone else's opportunity, too.

Learn something new. Bring it back. Grow Greatness.

Teacher Certification Grant

Your Next Career Could Start Here.

What if the person who inspires a Comal student to become a teacher is already working alongside them?

The Comal Education Foundation's Teacher Certification Grant is a new opportunity designed to help grow our own teachers by supporting Comal ISD employees who want to pursue a teaching career.

We know some of the most passionate future teachers are already part of our Comal ISD family. They know our students. They understand our schools. They have built relationships with families and colleagues. They simply need a pathway to the classroom.

This grant is designed to help remove financial barriers associated with becoming a certified teacher and encourage current Comal ISD employees to take the next step toward a teaching career.

Whether you're an instructional aide, substitute, support staff member, paraprofessional, or another eligible district employee who has dreamed of becoming a teacher, this opportunity is for you.

Grant funds may support eligible costs associated with pursuing teacher certification, subject to CEF's current guidelines and approved expenses.

Why It Matters

Growing our own educators strengthens Comal ISD by helping talented people who already understand our community become certified teachers and continue serving the students they know and care about. You already have a connection to Comal. Now, you may have an opportunity to build your future here, too.

Your next chapter could be in the classroom.

Shark Tank Grant

Have a Big Idea? Take the Challenge.
What if your idea could move from a spark of inspiration to a real solution?
The CEF Shark Tank Grant is a new opportunity designed to challenge Comal ISD educators and employees to think boldly, solve problems creatively, and pitch an idea that could make a meaningful difference for students, educators, or the district.

This isn't simply a grant application. It's a pitch.

Applicants will identify a challenge or opportunity, develop a solution, explain the impact, and present their idea to a panel of community and education leaders. Selected finalists will have the opportunity to compete for funding to turn their idea into action.

Who Can Apply?
The Shark Tank Grant is open to eligible Comal ISD staff and employees. Individual applicants or teams may participate, subject to CEF's guidelines.

Team Grant: Shark Tank

New this year, the Comal Education Foundation is excited to launch the Team Grant – Shark Tank Style, a bold new funding opportunity designed to support innovative ideas that impact students across multiple campuses.

This one-time annual $15,000 grant will be awarded to a team of educators representing three or more Comal ISD campuses. By encouraging collaboration across the district, the Team Grant allows us to expand the reach of creative programming and serve more students through one high-impact project.

Selected finalist teams will be invited to participate in Shark Tank – Teacher Style, where they will present their proposal live to a panel made up of Comal Education Foundation board members, campus administrators, district leaders, and invited family guests. Teams will share their vision, the impact on students, and how the funding will bring their idea to life.

The winning team will be announced at Spring Fling, with grant funds awarded to support implementation during the 2027–2028 school year.

The Team Grant celebrates collaboration, creativity, and innovation and gives educators the opportunity to dream big together for Comal ISD students.
